Code sometimes feels like an old attic

About forgetting code

  • Thoughts

I’m coming back from tidying my teenager room as my parents are moving from my childhood home. In the past couple of days I had dozens of “oh this was here?” and “Oh it worked this way” moments.

Now I’m on the train heading home, holidays are over and I started to think about work again, with a specific project in mind. It’s common knowledge between developers to forget how we did things once a few months or even days have passed. I know that when I’ll start working on a new feature, I will progressively remember how I tied things together.

Are code files like old cabins and attics? Places you come back to from time to time and then memories just pop back?
